Wedding planning can be a real pain sometimes. That’s why registries exist to help take the load off your honeymoon wishes. Two popular sites for your honeymoon fund registry are The Knot and Honeyfund. And picking between the two is a whole other challenge on its own. That’s why we’re here to break down the pros and cons of each registry to help you make your wedding planning easier and get you your well-deserved honeymoon funds. So which registry is better? Let’s dive right in!
Bottom Line Recommendation
Both registries are excellent at what they do. At the base of it all, they help couples receive cash and gifts in an efficient manner. But if we really had to pick one winner, we’d pick The Knot for a few reasons. First of all, The Knot offers the ability for couples to create both an item registry and a cash fund, unlike Honeyfund that only allows for a cash fund.
Secondly, The Knot is very transparent with their processing fee on cash gifts. Currently the fee is 2.5%. Whereas Honeyfund states on their website that they charge a small fee but they don’t make it clear how much that fee is.
And finally, The Knot has a contact form and a direct line to call for customer support where Honeyfund only has a contact form.

Features
The Knot
Let’s begin with The Knot.
For starters, The Knot allows you to make your own custom wedding website and syncs gifts from multiple retailers to your website.

You can add gifts from sites like Target, Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma, Amazon, Pottery Barn, and more.
In addition, you also have the option to add The Knot’s browser extension to add items from literally any other store.
You’re also able to browse through The Knot’s own store that has popular brands like KitchenAid and Dyson, including some exclusive items that you can’t get anywhere else.
Or perhaps you’re feeling different and instead want to set up a cash registry for charity donations, a down payment, or your dream honeymoon — The Knot cash funds makes it very easy to do so.
One common issue we hear from couples starting their wedding registries is that they don’t know what to add.

To solve this issue, The Knot provides personalized picks and suggestions that are unique to you. And in our experience, the suggestions are surprisingly accurate.
And to take this a step further, The Knot will do the math on how many items to include in your wedding registry based on how many guests are attending.
After all, you don’t want to be that person that has 50 guests coming but 300 items on a registry.
And finally, having a custom URL to share with guests makes it easier to spread the word about your wedding registry.
Imagine having to tell others a URL that has a bunch of random numbers and characters — sounds like a nightmare!
The easier the URL is to remember for the guests, the more likely they are to visit your wedding registry site and get you what you want.

Now let’s talk about the Honeyfund and some of their features.
Instead of items and gifts, Honeyfund focuses specifically on honeymoon registries.

This means that a couple using Honeyfund can only accept cash gifts for experiences and their honeymoon wishes.
Well that’s only part of it… Honeyfund also allows couples to accept cash gifts from wedding guests for a down payment on a house or for financial savings in the future.
One reason honeymoon registry sites are becoming more popular nowadays is because there is a growing number of couples that are prioritizing once-in-a-lifetime experiences over toasters and blenders.
And this entirely comes down to preference.
According to their website, the best way to think about Honeyfund is to think of it as a “Dream Bank Account” where wedding gifts are instead cash gifts.

Unlike a traditional registry for items, there is no waiting period to have your cash funds shipped and delivered.
The amazing thing about cash is that you also don’t need to worry about receiving gifts and having to wonder if you like it or not, or if it fits your lifestyle.
Honeyfund can also double as a one-page wedding website for you to share with friends and family that attend the wedding.
All in all, the concept of Honeyfund is quite simple. It acts as a bank account for wedding guests to deposit cash gifts into. You can then use the cash towards your honeymoon fund, a down payment, donate to a charity, or gift cards to name a few.

The Knot
Having a registry on The Knot is free.
The only fee applies to The Knot Cash Funds where they charge a 2.5% transaction fee to help cover their expenses.

And this fee is charged to guests, not the couple.
It’s important to note that The Knot only charges this amount because of their credit card processing fee and The Knot does not take any of the fee for themselves.

But we don’t recommend letting this deter you.
This fee is far less than the taxes and shipping costs associated with receiving physical gifts.
And the 2.5% fee is not hidden. It is shown to all guests and added onto each cash gift at checkout.
So if a guest wishes to gift $100, their total will be $102.50 at the checkout.

Honeyfund on the other hand charges no fees (with the help of their Honeyfund Wallet).
With their wallet, you can redeem your balance from your cash wedding registry via a combination of your Paypal account, Venmo, and nearly 200 other popular gift card brands with no fees.

It’s important to note that Paypal and Venmo may charge a processing fee on their end.
The only time Honeyfund charges a small fee is when you withdraw from your cash fund directly into your bank account.
At the time of this writing, there is no information on their website stating what that small fee is.
As always, it’s important to read the fine print.
But with how easy it is to redeem your cash fund into your bank or Paypal account, we’d wager the fee may be worth it.
EDIT: After doing some additional digging, turns out the total fee for Honeyfund is a 2.5% credit card processing fee + $0.30.
Visit HoneyfundUser Experience
When it comes to user experience for both wedding registries, The Knot and Honeyfund are super easy to use.
They offer similar experiences by allowing couples to create a wedding website and adding options for guests to contribute their monetary gift.

The only main difference here is that since The Knot has the option for couples to add physical gifts, The Knot also offers the ability for couples to get personalized suggestions on what items to add to their registry.

Whereas for The Knot Cash Fund and Honeyfund, there really isn’t any need for a personalized suggestion because all the gifts are in cash.

We recommend checking out each website and clicking around to get a good feel on the user experience for both.
If you feel that one site offers a better experience for you and your wedding guests, we’d suggest sticking with that registry instead.
